First of all both fighters are warriors with all due respect. Cotto has never lost, Margarito has lost 5 times. I feel as though Cotto is the harder puncher and smarter fighter. Margarito comes like his nickname(Tijuana Tornado). Margarito lost to Daniel Santos and was hurt badly in that fight. Santos is no where the puncher Cotto is. Cotto has been hurt and knocked down in his bouts at Junior Welter. I don’t know if Margarito can withstand the body attack that Cotto is going to deal out. Cotto can get hit with uppercuts. Margarito in his last fight did some nice things to Kermit Cintron by using great angles. In this fight Cotto will be the one using the angles. Cotto has beat the better opposition, Bazan, Sosa,N’dou, Bailey, Corley,Maglinaggi, Quintana,Judah and Mosley. Margarito’s most notable win came against Clottey, however Clottey broke his hand in the fight. So I’m taking Cotto because I think he is going to let Margarito walk into his punches. Plus you can be offensive minded like Margarito is but remember punches are coming back and I think Cotto’s defense is very under rated. Cotto knows how to use the entire ring. Something that a lot of fighters should observe. When a man has never lost he doesn’t know how to lose. Cotto in late round stoppage.

At the Quinte Sports Centre, Belleville, Ontario, Canada, and promoted by Buxton Promotions, featherweight Lindsay Garbatt, 125 ½, now 2-1-0 (2 KOs), of Ontario, stopped Lucia Larcinese, 127, in the fourth round and the final round.
What some seem to think was a premature stoppage, the crowd began to chant, “Rematch, Rematch.” According to one source, Larcinese was taking some heavy artillery from Garbatt, with a left hook as the final punch of the fight, that buckled Larcinese’s knees. Lindsay Garbatt is one featherweight to really watch out for, she has power, has good speed, durable and she throws very good punches.

Gamboa has a flashy combination of rare speed and snapping power, the 26-year old former Olympic Gold Medalist and Cuban defector Gamboa (11-0, 9 KO) blew out 28-year old Al Seeger (27-4, 21 KO) of Savannah, Georgia in less than a round on Friday night at the Buffalo Bill’s Star Arena in Primm, Nevada. The bout was contested at the Featherweight limit of 126 lbs. and both men weighed in at that mark. Gamboa had been competing four pounds higher at Jr. Lightweight and it remains to be seen which division will be his home going forward. Seeger’s highlights happened early, landing some rangy jabs as Gamboa looked for an opening to blow through. He found the first major opening available at the midway point of the round, slashing a right hand into Seeger that brought a pair of buckled knees and a bad sign for the future.

Heavyweight James “Lights Out” Toney (71-6-3, 44 KOs) scored a controversial third round TKO over Hasim “Rock” Rahman (45-7-3, 36 KOs) in their “Last Chance” clash on Wednesday night at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA. An accidental head butt in round three cut Rahman over the left eye and in the corner after the round, Rahman said he couldn’t see. The bout was then stopped by referee Ray Corona on the advice of ring doctor Paul Wallace. It was originally thought the result would be a no decision, but officials ruled that Rahman had indicated he couldn’t see before the cut was even examined, so a TKO was ruled. “This is the worst damn decision period,” said Rahman after the fight. The Rahman camp plans to appeal. From what was heard in the corner of Rahman’s you could hear one of his handlers tell him that his cut is okay. But the entire California athletic commission should really be evaluated because they are making and have made some very strange and bad decisions.

IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (51-3, 45 KOs) scored an eleventh round KO over tough, awkward Tony “The Tiger” Thompson (31-2, 19 KOs) to defend his belts on Saturday night at the Color Line Arena in Hamburg, Germany. After a slow first round, Klitschko began to connect with his right hand in round two, a round in which both fighters were cut by a headbutt. Klitschko continued to headhunt while Thompson started having good results to the body in the fourth. By round seven, Klitschko seemed to be breaking down Thompson, who was once Wlad’s sparring partner and seemed to be reverting to that mode as the fight went on. Thompson got up gingerly after both fighters got tangled up and went down to the canvas in the tenth. An animated Klitschko finally dropped Thompson for the count in the eleventh with a spectacular right hand. Time was 1:22. Next up for Klitschko will be a defense against Alexander Povetkin later this year.

Julio César Chavez Jr (37-0-1, 29 KOs) had all he could handle against Matt Vanda (36-7, 21 KOs) on Saturday night in Hermosillo, Mexico, taking a hard fought split decision in a jr middleweight bout. Junior was in command over the first half of the fight, but Vanda came on strong and it was an exciting toe-to-toe war over the last five rounds. Chavez was totally gassed near the end of the fight. Scores were 97-93 Chavez, 96-95 Vanda, and a preposterous 100-90 for Chavez. “I wanted to knock him out, but I couldn’t,” said Chavez after the fight. I’m satisfied with the decision.

Arum says that HBO should have forced Joe Calzaghe to fight Pavlik instead of allowing him to fight Roy Jones Jr. on pay-per-view. Arum told boxing scribe Robert Morales that HBO is recycling the same fighters over and over and hurting the sport in the process. “I think that’s what boxing is suffering from,” Arum said. “One guy (Calzaghe) is looking for his last fight and the other guy (Jones) should have retired a couple of years ago after he got knocked out. They are recycling everything and that doesn’t help the sport. What HBO should have done is insisted Calzaghe fight the younger guy who has put himself there by hard work and has an upside for the future. And that’s Pavlik. Where is this fight going? If Calzaghe wins, he retires. If Jones wins, who gives a f*ck.”

“Killer Queen” Susi Kentikian (21-0, 18 KOs). The unbeaten WBA/WIBF world champion and the No# 1 pound 4 pound female fighter will defend against durable pressure fighter Hagar Finer (16-6-3, 4 KOs), who has gone the distance in three world title fights. Kentikian, arguably the most exciting female boxer in the sport, however, is known for ending fights early. “We know Hagar Finer well,” said Kentikian. “She boxed against Regina Halmich in her farewell fight – and also Alesia Graf and Julia Sahin didn’t have it easy with her — and during the last two years she has clearly improved.” The “Killer Queen” has had two quick knockouts since going the distance last December and says that break has allowed her to properly recover. “Now I’m hot for for this next fight,” she concluded. The 20-year-old world champion was in Argentina last week to accept the WBA’s “Female Champion of the Year” award.

In the wildest fight of the year, Kendall Holt (24-2, 13 KOs) scored a incredible first round knockout over reigning world super lightweight champion Ricardo Torres (32-2, 28 KOs) to seize the WBO belt on Saturday night at the Planet Hollywood Casino in Las Vegas. Torres came out fast and knocked down Holt twice. However when Torres came in for the finish, Holt connected with a huge right hand that knocked Torres out cold. Torres was staggered by an unintentional headbutt just prior to Holt landing the coup de grâce. The bout lasted just 61 seconds. Torres had scored an eleventh round stoppage of Holt in a chaotic atmosphere ten months ago in Barranquilla, Columbia, but Holt returned the favor with interest, leaving Torres hanging motionless from the bottom rope.

While watching Manny Pacquiao destroy David Diaz, I heard an announcer say that he was boxing like Muhammad Ali, I looked at my television to make sure I wasn’t watching some local WWE wrestling channel but I wasn’t. I was watching a PPV fight. That was one of the most absurd comments that I have ever heard. Sure, Pacquiao did a paint job on the face of Diaz and knocked him out in the 9th round. After the fight Freddie Roach said that Manny is at his absolute best at 135 lbs. Now they are claiming to be the worlds best pound 4 pound fighter. Why is he not asking to fight the “Elite” fighters such as Joel Casamayor, Joan Guzman, Nate Campbell, Juan Diaz or Humberto Soto. Read the rest
