Margarito-Mosley Championship Fight Moved To LA!

The Antonio Margarito vs “Sugar” Shane Mosley WBA welterweight championship fight set for January 24th at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas has been moved to Staples Center in Los Angeles. Promoter Bob Arum said the bout is “an L.A. fight,” and revealed that MGM/Mirage planned to buy only about 40% of the expected tickets. There was speculations that the bout might have been moved due to the possibilities of additional scrutiny or possible discipline in Nevada after the release of grand jury testimony in which Mosley admitted taking performance enhancing EPO injections.Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Officer Keith Kizer told The Times that he didn’t think that was the reason the fight was moved.

Night Of “Chaos” On December 11th, In Irvine!

Lawsuit Threat Pressures CSAC Garcia’s Resignation!

The recent resignation of embattled California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) Executive Director Armando Garcia apparently came from pressure applied after it was announced a year ago that New Era Fighting (NEF) was filing a  $500,000,000 lawsuit against Garcia, alleging a pattern and practice by the California State Athletic Commission of intentionally, willfully and viciously interfering with a licensed and approved event, which effected and injured New Era Fighting in the same or similar fashion as other mixed martial arts promoters, managers and fighters.

U.S. District Judge Releases Documents On Mosley!

HOT NEWS!
A U.S. District Court judge has unsealed thousands of previously court-protected documents from the BALCO drug case including former world champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley’s 2003 grand jury testimony. According to the New York Daily News, Mosley testified that he injected himself with the performance enhancing substance EPO before his second fight with Oscar De La Hoya, who ironically is now his business partner. Mosley is scheduled to challenge WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito on January 24th.

Hatton’s Trainer Mayweather, Sr May Retire!

Ricky Hatton’s trainer Floyd Mayweather Senior has revealed he may have to retire from training because of health problems.

Mayweather, 55, has a lung disease called sarcoidosis, which he says has gotten worse over the last few years. Sr. developed sarcoidosis shortly after moving to Las Vegas 11 years ago. Desert dust, exacerbated by construction dust, assaults his lungs. He is considering moving home, at least part-time, but cold weather has its own negative effects. He coughs every few seconds and he took steroids over a few years to treat it, now uses herbal remedies and ointments.

Referee Toby Gibson Found Dead!

Right Cross has learned that boxing referee Toby Gibson has taken his own life. Gibson was 61, he was found dead in the garage of his Las Vegas home on monday by his wife Barbara. Mr. Gibson refereed two fights this past weekend on the undercard of Ricky Hatton - Paulie Maglinaggi at the MGM Grand Hotel Casino. A spokeswoman for the Clark County coroner’s office said the cause and manner of death are pending.

Margarito vs Mosley Back On 2009!

The battle that was supposed to happen between WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito and challenger Shane Mosley is back on for January 24th in Las Vegas. Margarito is back in training in Tijuana and is expected to be traveling soon to Los Angeles for more intensive training. At first Margarito didn’t accept the original proposal of the division 50/50 of the $4 million offered, but HBO apparently raised the pot enough to entice “The Tijuana Tornado.” After Mosley, Margarito is expected to give a rematch to Miguel Cotto in June at New York City.

Lennox Lewis “I’ll Fight For $100 Million”

43-year-old former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis says he will return for a rematch with Vitali Klitschko if someone coughs up $100 million. “It is not and it has never been about the money,” Lewis claimed to the London Independent. “I’ve had big offers again and again since the first day that I retired and I always say ‘No’. It is about respect and the glory. I have nothing to prove.”

Unbeaten WIBF/WBC female featherweight champion Ina Menzer (22-0, 9 KOs) won 10 round unanimous decision against the game Adriana Salles (11-4-1, 5 KOs) to retain her belts. Menzer had Salles in trouble on several occasions but couldn’t put her away. When the final bell sounded and as the final scores were read Salles had tears in her eyes because she knew what the judges decisions would be.98-92, 100-90, 99-91 all for Menzer.

Chomaz Beats Barber By Split Decision!

Thursday night at the Palais des Sports in Saint-Quentin Aisne, France, Myriam Chomaz won a split decision over American Jennifer Barber. Final judges scores were 98-93 for Barber, 94-96, and 95-96 for Chomaz.  According to a source, Barber won almost all the rounds and had Chomaz hurt during the fight. Chomaz wins the interim WBC Super Featherweight title.
